Radio and Print Adverts

Codes and conventions of radio trailers

Trailers are produced in such a way that they can be used on T.V and radio.

  • Extracts from the programme

  • Voiceover outlining the narrative of the programme - not always

  • Voiceover asks retorical questions that the programme will answer

  • The last thing you hear is the channel name which reienforces it

  • Scheduling

  • 30-40 seconds

Codes and Conventions of Print adverts

  • One strong large image

  • Words kept to a minimum

  • Slogan

  • Chennel logo

  • Styled like existing adverts by that channel

  • Scheduling

The trailer and the print advert are part of an overall campaign so there needs to be a consistant theme and messages and slogans across both products

This is the sketch for our print advert. It is going to be two blind folded people facing eachotherwith the slogan 'face to face' this has connotations of how communication has changed which is what the documentary surrounds based on our running order.

Editing

I played an active role in the editing of our documentary, I captured alot of our footage and edited an interview whilst the other 2 members in my group edited an interview each too. We did experience some problems whilst editing as we failed to edit the interviews correctly without including pauses which made the interview jump therefore we had to edit the interview again. We had some very time consuming parts thorughout our editing as we had to focus on our opening titles as our titles had to look as if they where typing across a screen with music aswell as the typing sound effect in the background therefore this took alot of time and was done incorrectly once or twice for example, we would have two letters coming up at the same time therefore we had to do it again from where we made the mistake. Also we had to make sure our opening titles fitted in with the music so that it would say 'virtual insanity' whilst our typing was on the screen. As apart of our editing we needed to edit out questions from the interviews we conducted so that you can not hear the question being asked. Also during interviews we used cut aways where needed and used images that where appropriate for what the person who is being interviewd was saying. Also in editing we needed to include text in our interviews so our target audience would know who the person was that was being intervied for example we interviewed Jon Dutton who is an internet radio presenter so we included this on top of the interview as text to introduce further who it is that is being interviewed.

Filming

During our filming i filmed shots which may have been appropriate for cutaways that could be used in the documentary however there may be too much filmed. I filmed shots of computers and shots of libary and common room as school is mentioned frequently in our first five minutes. However changes to our running order have effected the shots we have used aswell as effecting the editing process.

I panned around the school libary as this could have been used as a part of a montarge surrounding education.

Shots of the common room for cutaways.

This is filming of the Jules Hatchard (IT expert) interview this had to be conducted three times as we experienced various problems whilst filming such as inncorrect framing and our interviewee was not advised to look at who was asking the question therefore we had to film again and again. Thirs time round we learned from our mistakes and conducted the interview correctly.

This is our filming of Hippies on the Hill, this interview went well had we had learned that framing and where the interviewees look is important we learned this from the mistakes we made when interviewing our IT expert.

Questionnaire Results

The majority of people who answered our questionnaire are over 40 therefore we will consider this when thinking about our tarhet audiences as this is relevent to the subject of the internet.

This graph shows the occupations of the people who we asked to fill out our questionnaire. It shows that we have 9 teachers this may affect the results of further questions however it will be helpful for our interviews and the target audience as in our documentary we will be interviewing teachers and people who work in a school.

We found that the majority of people we interviewed preferred to listen to pop music; therefore we will use this genre of music in our documentary if it applies to what we are featuring.

These results show that the majority of people we interviewed use the internet everyday, and this will have a significant part in our documentary as it justifies the the programme.

This chart shows that Facebook is the most used site, and this plays an important role in our documentary as this is what the audience is most familiar with.

This graph shows that people mainly watch BBC 1 therefore we will consider this as a channel for our documentary as our target audience from 25-40+ do regularly watch BBC 1 therefore our documentary may be something they choose to watch.

Are you a parent ?

25:Yes
5: No

This shows that the majority of people who took part in the questionnaire where parents. I think that this is important as during the documentary we are considering interviewing a parent or doing a vox pop of parents asking theyre views of their children using social networking sites therefore this will attract our target audience.

Do you have any concerns about your child using the internet?

Yes:57%
No: 43%

This shows that the majority of the people said yes, however a lot of people also said no, which shows the opinions are balanced.

This graph shows the answers of our audience who are not parents and what they think are the main dangers of using the internet. It shows that even though they are not parents and don’t have to worry that they are.

This chart shows that keeping in touch is the most positive factor of using the internet, therefore we will include this in our content.

This graph shows that the majority of people who we asked thought that bulling was the biggest problem with the internet therefore we will consider using this as a part of our content for our documentary.
